With his heart and soul open to the world around him, Mack Keane’s songwriting has a distinctive touch of warmth and sincerity. Growing up in a family of musicians, it’s only natural that he thrives as an artist, producer, and performer. But above all else, Mack is a storyteller. He’s deeply in tune with his surroundings, channeling his experiences into cathartic melodies and lyrics.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, Mack fondly remembers biking to Target to buy a copy of Channel Orange when he was in high school. Back home, he added that record to a CD collection ranging from Stevie Wonder and Steely Dan, to Outkast and Pharell. Today, Mack combines these influences into timeless songs that transport us back in time through vivid memories.
In 2019, Mack began a trilogy of EPs, each named after a nostalgic place from his childhood. Donna Ave takes us back to the street where Mack grew up, immersed in music as his family ran a recording studio from their home. It was here, behind the boards and in the arms of his father, that a young Mack was introduced to the sounds of R&B, hip-hop, and neo soul. Donna Ave reimagines these classic influences through the vibrance of modern production. Later that year, Aquanetta Dr juxtaposed bright, warm sounds with dark, introspective lyricism. Front to back, this project reflects the emotional complexities of Mack’s most cherished memories.
In 2020, Mack concluded the trilogy with Dry Creek Rd. This EP brings us to the street where his grandma lives, peering through the windows of a home where Mack spent his childhood writing songs on the piano and playing GoldenEye on the floor of her den. On Dry Creek Rd Mack is at his most sentimental, reminiscing about moments that existed in another time and space. In retrospect, the trilogy invites us to hear Mack discover his sound in real-time. With each new song, Mack is peeling away the layers, getting closer and closer to his core.
In 2022, while his earlier work was largely self-produced, Mack began to tap into the energy and inspiration of new collaborators with his newly-released EP Intersections with ESTA. Now, we see him more vulnerable than ever before, inviting us into a world swirling with nostalgia and heartbreak. This project has marked the beginning of a new era for Mack – one driven by the clarity of self-reflection and unapologetic honesty. With his most authentic music on the horizon, Mack is grounded in the present, enjoying every step of his ascent.
