JAHSON PAYNTER

Jahson Isaiah Paynter was born in Scarborough, Ontario, and raised in Mississauga, shaped by his Jamaican and South African roots. With music all around him—a mom who dreamed of songwriting, a reggae musician dad, and aunts involved in Broadway and poetry—he started writing poetry and raps at just ten. Influenced by everything from reggae to R&B to hip hop, he worked a series of jobs—paper boy, McDonald’s, IKEA, construction—before diving fully into music. After a transformative trip to L.A. in 2022, he began writing for other artists while crafting his own sound. Now, Jahson bridges alternative, R&B, hip hop, and folk, blending his story into a truly genre-defying voice.
